Fire safety starts at home

October is Fire Safety month and normally we would share with school-aged children in the classroom but we know that everyone can benefit with some info and helpful hints to stay safe at home.

As the temps start to drop, please consider these guidelines for preventing fires in the home due to hazards that lead to fires.

Please have your chimney cleaned and inspected before cold weather requires extra home heating

Each year we see our responses to structure fire calls increase when home heating is supplemented with the use of fireplaces or woodstoves. However you plan to heat your home this year, please plan for safety with pre-season cleaning and inspection from a certified technician so you have a safe and warm winter season. Removing creosote buildup from last season and finding or fixing flaws or weaknesses in your heat system can prevent deadly chimney fires. Stay safe!

Move to the Right for Sirens and Lights

Some folks get confused when emergency vehicles approach them from behind or ahead. Regardless of your direction of travel, slow down and pull to the right to allow an emergency vehicle to pass you when their lights are activated. It helps us help others quickly AND it is the law. Thanks.

Hurricane Laura Response – Active 8/27/2020

WPFD has crews responding to down trees in various areas on Ferncliff Rd, Congo-Ferndale Rd, and Kanis Rd near Walnut Grove. We are responding quickly right now but as the storm gets stronger in our area we may get busy running between several areas. We will work to clear the roads as soon as we can but please expect that some delays may occur. We ask you to drive slow, look carefully for trees or water in the roadway that could impact your safe travel. We will provide some updates as available from this page when possible.Stay Safe!
