EMERGENCY ACCESSIBILITY: Can Fire & Rescue Get to You Fast?

🔒 EMERGENCY ACCESSIBILITY: Can Fire & Rescue Get to You Fast? 🧑‍🚒🚒

If you have a private gate, automated fence, or chain-locked access point, a few extra minutes spent trying to open it during an emergency can make a lifetime of difference. West Pulaski Fire Department (WPFD) needs your help to ensure our crews can reach you without delay!

Please review these essential guidelines for your property access points:

  • Automated Gates: If you have a motorized gate, ensure your gate contractor installs an approved fire box device. This allows emergency personnel to open the gate automatically.
  • No Private Padlocks on Fire Boxes: Never place a private padlock or private keyed lock on a fire box. WPFD cannot manage individual keys. Additionally, never install a fire box that uses only a key-access cylinder, as there is no universal key to open it.
  • Manual Gates & Chained Access: If your gate or fence is operated manually with a chain, it must be double-locked (in-line) with a fire department padlock. This allows both you and emergency services to unlock the chain independently.

🛠️ Gate Maintenance & Repairs?
If you or your gate contractor need access to a fire box for maintenance, do not cut the WPFD padlock! Reach out to us first. We will unlock fire locks for verified owners (ID required) the same day or sooner so repairs can be made.

🔑 Need a Fire Padlock or Have Questions?
WPFD only opens these locks during an emergency or to test the gate operator. If you need a fire padlock, or if you have a unique property access situation you would like to discuss, please contact us:
