12:44 Today: WPFD was dispatched to a vehicle fire near the 4600 block of Garrison Road this afternoon that involved a Waste Management truck. The cause appears to be mechanical and our crews were able to extinguish the fire and get the road open shortly after. No injuries were reported. We also do not have info about trash pickup past this point on the driver’s route but hopefully, another truck is located to pick up the remainder of their Thursday route.
Welcome Aboard! Class 2022-A started Rookie Training with us this weekend and began a journey to become Certified Volunteer Firefighters. The folks began with our Intro and PPE classes to better understand fire itself and our role to play in making it go away from things we don’t want to burn. They also got hands-on with the protective equipment we wear that shields us from bad things both hot and not. There are more training challenges to conquer but it is a great start to the learning that these neighbors have undertaken.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
Join us in our next rookie class! Find out how by visiting your local fire station or calling us at 501-821-9320 or message us right here for more info.
Freedom is not Free. Today we remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our grateful nation. Please take a moment today to remember, honor, or recognize those of our armed forces that died while serving in war or peacetime. Thank you.
Summertime is near and we know folks want to get their pool open soon! We do not want to be a negative nelly but we see lots of posts and get lots of calls about pool filling this time of year.
Unfortunately, most fire departments DO NOT fill swimming pools, us included. We have limits to what we can do and our liability insurance is not intended to cover possible damage to your property, pool deck, pool liner, equipment, or injuries that might occur on this type of request. We love ya, we really do, but unless your pool is on fire we can’t really bring water to it. (disclaimer, please don’t set your pool on fire, that just doesn’t make sense). Besides, the water we use for fires and training is not intended for us to distribute for such an activity and the water that flows through our trucks gets dirty sometimes. You really do not want a pool full of something that looks like it was poured from a coffee cup at Starbucks.
We hope you have a fantastic summer and enjoy your pool with friends and family. Have a Safe Summer!
Here is a story from KARK-TV about a structure fire in our fire district on Tuesday that also involved a firefighter injury/rescue. Chief Scott Joblin was interviewed and discussed the incident.
